Current status
We’ve completed development of the fix and successfully tested the updated build in an internal environment with the offending change removed. We’re progressing the remaining preparations required to deploy the fix to the affected environment. Once deployed, we’ll validate that the fix has remediated impact.
More info
This occurs when organizers create and publish town halls with registration disabled. Additionally, users find the Join option unavailable or unresponsive.
Scope of impact
Impact is specific to some users attempting to join town hall meetings in Microsoft Teams when registration is disabled.
Root cause
A recent service change has introduced a code regression that incorrectly requires attendee registration information when registration is disabled. As a result, the attendee Join URL is removed from the session response, preventing users from joining affected town hall meetings.

We’ve confirmed the source of the regression and are developing a code fix to remediate impact. Once the updated build is complete, we’ll test the fix within an internal environment to confirm its effectiveness before progressing with a gradual rollout to the affected environment.

We’ve identified that a recent service change introduced a regression which removes the attendee Join URL when registration is disabled, resulting in the Join option being unavailable or unresponsive. We’re validating this finding and assessing whether reverting the change or implementing a code fix is the most appropriate mitigation to remediate impact.

We’ve confirmed that affected town halls are successfully created and published with registration disabled as intended. However, the attendee experience isn’t honoring this setting and users continue to be directed to a registration page. We're reviewing service monitoring telemetry to isolate the root cause and determine our next troubleshooting steps.
